information subject to change German Bands: Alex Meixner, a 2007 Grammy nominee, is a musical chameleon. He has performed traditional ethnic music since he was 4 years old and has extensive experiences in a wide variety of musical genres (everything from classical to jazz to pop to world music.) His true passion lies in entertaining audiences...he does this primarily with an international party mix of polka music. Come to Tomball, become a believer. Sponsored by Polkabeat.com Alpenfest has been performing traditional Alpine music for nearly 40 years. They play regularly at Rudi Lechner's Restaurant in Houston, and have been performing for Tomball's German festivals since the very first one in March of 2000. Audiences love to dance a fast polka, or a romantic waltz to their music. Chris Rybak is known as the Accordion Cowboy. His music is lively and fun, always attracting a thirsty polka dancing party crowd. Chris and Edita host and MC the Chris Rybak Party Stage. Das Ist Lustig performs shows that are largely interactive with their audiences. They play at King's Biergarten in Pearland every Thursday. Guests are invited to sing along, ring along, and sometimes even learn a folk dance during their shows. Valina from Das Ist Lustig is MC in the Telgte Dancehall. Enzian Buam plays an array of Alpine jodels and a little Texas country too. Their upbeat music has everyone tapping their toes. 3rd Generation Band are four young siblings performing German folk and American oldies together. They began performing at Tomball's festivals 3 years ago. Every year, their dynamic repertoire grows, and so does their following. Kenny James is a one man band performing with his accordion. Kenny plays at King's Biergarten in Pearland every Friday. He always brings a smile to his audiences faces. Shelia Lee loves to play with her audiences. So much so, that sometimes, she has an extra accordion laying about to challenge her guests to try. It doesn't take long for a Shelia Lee show to turn into a party. If she invites you to sing for her, you could become a star. She often invites her students from her accordion school and store in Pasadena, to perform with her here in Tomball. Variety Bands: Dana Kelly, a local Tomball favorite, sings country for her audience's dancing and listening pleasure. Blue Yonder inspired the Tomball festival to dedicate an entire stage to bluegrass music. They are a local Tomball favorite, and Tomball's guests from Telgte Germany love their music. Armstrong Family are a family of bluegrass musicians playing and singing bluegrass music. They also will lead some jam sessions during the day Saturday and Sunday. Scott Armstrong is the host and MC at the Bluegrass Stage. The Sieker Band, after playing bluegrass music in Europe for several decades, they now live and perform in Texas. Their sound is influenced by Texas fiddlin' and songwriting. Most of their repertoire is original. Singers, Folk Dancers, Show Groups: Class Act Stars On Tour are a youth based theater group from the Woodlands. They perform show choir arrangements of popular tunes and music from various broadway shows. Cloggers On The Move are a family based clogging group from the Tomball and Magnolia area. They perform lively clogging routines to popular music. Cloggers Unlimited are a group of clogging ladies from Spring, Tomball and Magnolia area of Houston who love to dance and perform their energetic dances for their audiences. They've even tailored their clogging dresses to look like Lederhosen! Covenant Academy Honor Choir are a group of 3rd through 8th grade students singing and ringing patriotic and popular music to delight the ears. They'll also have the honor of singing our National Anthem at the opening ceremonies Saturday morning. CYT Houston Christian Youth Theater Houston (CYT) is an after-school children's theater arts training program for students ages 4 - 18. Since its founding in 1981 in San Diego, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation. It is the number one children's theater school in the nation. Judy Dugas with her Autoharp performs Christmas and American folk tunes. Her inviting demeanor and beautiful sounds are enchanting to the senses. Rathkamp German Dancers perform German, Austrian, and Swiss folk dances, sometimes even inviting their audiences to join in. Texas Klompendansers perform Dutch folk dances on traditional Dutch wooden shoes. High School German Clubs perform German folk dances they took to competition in February of 2012. Polka bands, choruses, and vocal soloists may also perform at the event. Strolling Acts: Gene Hackemack loves to lead a German sing along. Look for him strolling about with an accordion and a friendly smile on his face. TubaMeisters stroll and play their low down "heavy metal" Christmas music. Heritage Fest PerformersAlpenfest has performed for the Tomball festival since the very beginning in March 2000. They'll be on the Telgte Dancehall Stage. Cloggers Unlimited love performing at Tomball's German festivals so much, they designed a new outfit to look like Lederhosen! They'll be at the Chris Rybak Party Stage Friday evening. Judy Dugas plays delightful folk and Americana music on her Autoharp, but special for the Tomball German festivals, she's adding some German polkas and waltzes to that mix. Shelia Lee entertains with an international flair at the Chris Rybak Stage. Watch for her students from the HAPI studio in Pasadena - they often join her on stage. |
